We believe that we offer an excellent standard of dental care. This leaflet gives more information about T.W.D.C. and the services that are provided.

The Practice is open and dentists are available by appointment during the following times:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday  9am-5pm (Closed for lunch 1-2pm)

Facilities

The waiting room is on the ground floor and has a large television and magazines. The patient’s lavatory is on the ground floor. Regrettably our premises are inaccessible to wheelchairs and due to the design of the period building it would not be possible to provide access. We will however endeavour to accommodate patients with walking difficulties in the ground floor surgery whenever possible.

Dental Care and Treatment at the Practice

We offer a full range of preventative and cosmetic dentistry, as well as an in-house hygienist. Many patients are nervous about visiting a dentist and we have a private counsellor available for patients with anxiety or phobias to whom referrals can be made. Each surgery has intra-oral cameras that are used to explain the treatment and oral hygiene procedures that are necessary. Patients can be referred to local practices for both Private and NHS orthodontic assessment and treatment referrals can also be made for minor oral surgery such as the removal of wisdom teeth. Our dental team undertake continuous professional development training to keep their knowledge and skills up to date.

We provide private dental care for adults and children and promote healthy oral hygiene and dental fitness in a calm, pleasant and hygienic environment.

Tunbridge Wells Dental Centre is registered under the Data Protection Act and complies with the Freedom of Information Act. We have a Certificate of Commitment to improve Health and Safety compliance and are a BUPA accredited Dental Practice.

Children

Helping our young patients get into the routine of caring for their teeth and gums is very important to us. We are happy to offer children examination and emergency appointments if required. Children’s examination and treatment is chargeable. The treatment is subject to 10% discount off adult prices, if the parents are regular attending patients. (Maintenance Plan parents will benefit from 20% discount off children’s treatment). Both our dentists and dental hygienist are experienced with children; they have a caring and understanding manner and both child and parents will be given advice on good dental care. Parents please note children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by either a parent or guardian at the time of any examination or consultation. For agreed treatments subject to a valid and up to date letter of consent the child may be seen with an accompanying adult (who will be asked to provide identification).

Communication

Good communication with our patients is very important to us and we take time to explain proposed treatment, any risks associated with it as well as all available alternatives. There will always be time to ask questions about the treatment or any other aspect of care at the practice. Printed estimates/treatment plans will be available, likewise a printed statement of payment which itemises all treatment received is available upon request from reception. We are happy to treat patients with insurance cover and complete their paperwork, but payment must be made in the first instance to us then re-claimed from the relevant insurance company. (It is your responsibility to check your level of cover, terms and conditions, with your insurance company prior to treatment).

Complaints

We want you to be entirely satisfied with your care and treatment at the Tunbridge Wells Dental Centre. If you are not satisfied with the any of the service provided at this practice, in the first instance please talk to our Practice Manager who will deal with the complaint according to the practice’s complaints policy.

Emergency Care

Patients of the practice who have a dental emergency when the practice is not open should telephone Dentaline, the NHS out of hours emergency call centre on 01634 890300 and a recorded message will give details of the on-call dentist and the nearest centre with availability. This centre will provide telephone advice and treatment where it cannot be safely delayed until the practice is open again. Patients who do not need to be seen as an emergency but feel that they do need to see a dentist quickly because of dental pain, lost fillings or crowns etc, should telephone the practice during opening hours and they will be given advice and an appointment at the earliest possible opportunity. Out of opening hours Dr Afzal’s mobile number 07432234008 is strictly for advice during reasonable hours.

Appointments

Whenever possible we endeavour to provide an appointment at a convenient time to suit you, but sometimes, as we are a busy practice this may not always be possible. We appreciate telephone calls for appointment bookings or alterations to be during our opening hours. From all patients we will request a token deposit if your treatment appointment is for 30 minutes or longer. If you are not able to keep your appointment for whatever reason please give us at least 24 hours Practice working day notice (please see the published Tunbridge Wells Dental Centre opening hours). If this is not possible a charge of £20 per 15 minutes or part thereof will be made. For treatment appointments, 1 hour or longer, we require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice. In the case of frequent cancellations or failing to attend we reserve the right to charge according to our current hourly rate.

Payment

We accept all major credit and debit cards but will pass on the 3% (Amex.5%) handling charge levied on us by the Credit Card companies, (this surcharge does not apply to Switch, Maestro or Debit Cards). In the event of non-payment we reserve the right to add 25% extra administration costs to the debt. Treatment will need to be paid for at each appointment, in the case of anything requiring the services of a Dental Laboratory i.e. - Crowns, Bridges, Inlays, Dentures etc, and then we request full payment at the preparation stage as we are then committed to the laboratory’s bills.
